I’ve had it confirmed that Jeff Nichols’ “The Bikeriders” will have its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival this coming labor day weekend.

20th Century Studios has dated Nichols’ picture for a December 1st release. As it stands, it’s not showing up at either TIFF or Venice. The film stars Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook and Norman Reedus. Obviously, these talented actors won’t be going to Telluride due to the actors strike.

“The Bikeriders” is set in the 1960s following the rise of a fictional, midwestern motorcycle club. Seen through the lives of its members, the club evolves over the course of a decade from a gathering place for local outsiders into a full-out gang, threatening the original group’s unique way of life.

Nichols hasn’t released a film since 2017’s “Loving.” His filmography, which includes the likes of “Take Shelter,” “Mud,” and “Midnight Special,” has built up a solid fanbase — especially in France, where critics have been much more enthusiastic about Nichols’ films than in the US.
